Wooden Rafter Tails are a beautiful way to add architectural character and craftsmanship to the exterior of a home or commercial building. Our rafter tails are handcrafted from Western Red Cedar and are available in smooth planed, rough sawn, or true rough finishes to match the style of your project. Western Red Cedar is naturally resistant to moisture, insects, and decay, making it an excellent choice for exterior architectural components.
Rafter tails are commonly used on homes, cabins, timber structures, and large commercial projects. They are also popular in free standing structures such as pergolas, gazebos, pavilions, and covered entries where exposed rafters create a distinctive architectural look.
Each profile is carefully cut and finished to highlight the natural beauty of the wood while maintaining structural integrity. Multiple thickness options are available to match different framing conditions, and standard projection lengths allow easy integration with common roof overhang dimensions.
Rafter tails are also known as outlookers and can be produced as custom pieces when a specific length or detail is required. If you need lengths longer than the standard options shown, we can often manufacture pieces up to 24 feet, depending on timber availability.
If the True Rough option is selected, the finished dimensions may vary slightly from standard nominal sizes. For example, a rafter tail listed with a height of 3 1/2" may be closer to a full 4" depending on the rough timber available. Because true rough timbers retain their natural milling size, dimensions may vary slightly. If precise sizing is important for your project, we recommend discussing this option with our sales team before placing your order.
