What wood are your mantels made from?
Our mantels are crafted from solid Western Red Cedar, chosen for its rich grain, dimensional stability, and light weight. Cedar resists warping and cracking better than many hardwoods and takes stain or a clear finish beautifully.
Can I order a custom-size mantel?
Yes. Beyond our standard lengths, every mantel can be milled to your exact width, depth, and length. Send us your measurements or call 1-800-915-5110 to discuss a custom mantel.
How are your mantels mounted?
Most cedar mantels mount on a concealed cleat (a French cleat or lag-bolted backer board) so no hardware is visible. We can advise on the right mounting method for your wall type and mantel weight.
Are cedar mantels safe above a fireplace?
Decorative mantels should be installed at the clearance specified by your fireplace or stove manufacturer and local building code. Cedar is a combustible wood like any solid-wood mantel, so always follow the required clearance to the firebox.
Do mantels come finished or unfinished?
Mantels ship unfinished so you can stain, oil, or seal them to match your room. We recommend a clear or tinted interior wood finish to bring out cedar's grain.
What is the difference between a mantel and a mantel shelf?
A mantel shelf is a single horizontal shelf mounted above the firebox; a full mantel or surround frames the firebox on the sides as well. We offer both — tell us your opening size and we'll help you choose.
